At the point we decided to change our priorities and escape the hectic city life we started seeking out our paradise. Living on the California coast was great, but packed regardless of what activities we picked to do. We had heard about Colorado and the big areas of openness, especially in western Colorado with towns like Aspen and Vail that are smaller communities, but also popular cultural centers.
Flying into Grand Junction we started east on Interstate 70 to check out Aspen and Vail. It was late in the day when we drove into Glenwood Springs and decided this would be a nice place to stop over and then decide on Aspen or Vail the next day. We choose to stay at the old and quaint Hotel Colorado and after settling into our room we wanted to discover what Glenwood Springs gave us to see. The concierge suggested some nice shops to visit, but when we inquired about restaurants he said it depends on the food you wish to eat. Being in Colorado I wanted a juicy steak, but my better half wanted seafood like back home. I explained to her the closest ocean was too many miles away, so the seafood should never be ashigh quality as we could get back home, but she held her foot down. So his suggestions was a small dining establishment right across the foot bridge called Juicy Lucy’s steak house where we could have the best of both worlds.
After visiting several small stores we found Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse and after a brief amount of time at the historic bar we were shown our table. As I reviewed the menu I noticed the perfect meal for me, Colorado Elk Sirloin. Organically grilled elk sirloin shaved and served on sautéed portabella mushrooms, but I wassurprised by the {fish|seafood|fresh catch| selections on the choices. I was even more impressed by their daily specials like; Broiled Sea Scallops stuffed with Alaskan King Crab or Fresh fish Mequite Grilled over the BBQ. I had to ask about the age and quality since it was certain the closest ocean was a long distance away. He implied they only deliver the finest ingredients and the fresh catch is flown in each morning six days a week. My wife ordered the Sea Scallops and I will tell you this if you had no idea you were in {the rocky mountains|Colorado|dry regions of the country| you would think you were eating in a seafood restaurant on the ocean.
For our next days excursions we decided on Aspen, and explored all the small pueblos from all over the Aspen Valley. In this valley we could snowshoe in the winter, fly fish in the summer, hike, bike and be by ourselves, or go to a fun event or concert almost any night. We found our paradise and knowing that no matter where we end up in the area we were only a short trip away from the best seafood in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. Who would have imagined that a restaurant named Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse would facilitate us make one of the best choices of our life.
