At the point we decided to change our life style and exit the hectic city life we started looking for our paradise. Living on the California coast was enjoyable, but packed no matter what entertainment we decided to do. We had heard about Colorado and the big areas of openness, especially in western Colorado with towns like Aspen and Vail that are smaller communities, but also popular cultural centers.
Landing the plane in into Grand Junction we headed east on Interstate 70 to check out Aspen and Vail. It was late morning when we arrived in Glenwood Springs and decided this would be a nice place to stop over and then decide on Aspen or Vail in the morning. We decided to rest at the historic Hotel Colorado and after settling into our room we wanted to discover what Glenwood Springs has to do. The front desk clerk suggested some quint shops to visit, but when we asked about places to eat he said it depends on the food you want to try. Being in Colorado I wanted a juicy steak, but my wife wanted seafood like back home. I told her the closest ocean was many miles distant, so the seafood would never be ashigh quality as we could get at home, but she insisted. So his recommendation was a quaint dining establishment right across the bridge called Juicy Lucy’s steak house where we could have the greatest variety of both.
After visiting several small shops we found Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse and after a brief wait at the historic bar we were seated. As I read the menu I saw the best meal for me, Colorado Elk Sirloin. All natural grilled elk sirloin shaved and presented on sautéed portabella mushrooms, but I was impressed by the {fish|seafood|fresh catch| selections on the choices. I was even more impressed by their daily specials such as; Beef Tenderloin in Tuscany Wine Sauce or Grilled Hawaiian Opa with Oriental Citrus Glaze. I had to inquire about the age and quality since it was obvious the closest ocean was a long distance away. He told us they only use the freshest ingredients and the shell fish is flown in each morning six days a week. My wife ordered the Sea Scallops and I will tell you this if you didn’t know you were in {the rocky mountains|Colorado|dry regions of the country| you would insist you were eating in a seafood restaurant by the beach.
Next day on the tour we decided on Carbondale, and couldn’t get over the small pueblos from Glenwood Springs to Aspen. At This place we could ski in the winter, jeep in the summer, hike, bike and be by ourselves, or go to a theater or concert almost any night. We found our heaven and knowing that regardless where we end up in the valley we were only a short trip away from the freshest seafood in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. Who would have guessed that a dining area named Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse would help us make one of the best choices ever.
